Calvary KidsChildren are a blessing from God, and should be richly invested in. Deuteronomy 6 tells us: "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." As such, Calvary provides biblical teaching that is relevant to your childs age. We ask that kids 11 and up would sit in the sanctuary with their parents as it is a perfect age for children to begin experiencing expository preaching; thus providing you, the parent, with an avenue for discussion of God's word with your child.

Our History:In 1965 Pastor Chuck Smith started his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Beginning with a mere 25 people, he saw God bless his simple, yet consistent style of teaching straight through the Bible. Today, Calvary Chapel has grown to over 1,500 churches worldwide. With a genuine heart for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his ministry for a generation of hippies, surfers, and drug addicts. This generated a stirring of the Holy Spirit, which spread from the California coast to the Atlantic and beyond. This movement was instrumental in bringing thousands of young people to Jesus Christ during the 60s and 70s in what was known as the Jesus People Movement. As God expanded his ministry, Pastor Chuck's visionary leadership saw the birth of other ministries such as The Word for Today, a publishing/radio broadcasting ministry which is heard worldwide. A noted speaker and the author of over 25 books, Pastor Chuck can be heard daily on television, radio, and webcasts throughout the world.

How Can We Know God?1. Realize that you are a sinner. No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good person. That is because we are all sinners. We all fall short of God’s desire for us to be holy. The Bible says, “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). This is because we cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ.2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.The Bible tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8). This is the Good News, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it.3. Repent of your sin.The Bible tells us to “repent and be converted” (Acts 3:19). The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him.4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church on Sunday. It is having Christ Himself take residence in your life and heart. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door (of your life) and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in . . . .” (Revelation 3:20).If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply pray a prayer similar to this one and mean it in your heart:Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe you died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess you as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.If you just prayed that prayer and meant it, Jesus Christ has now taken residence in your heart! Your decision to follow Christ means God has forgiven you and that you will spend eternity in heaven. The Bible tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).To put your faith in action, be sure to spend time with God by reading your Bible, praying, going to church, and telling others about Christ. For more information and resources about knowing God, visit: www.knowgod.org

Our purpose is two-fold. First, our hope is to simply fall deeper in love with Jesus Christ, through prayer, worship, and study of His Word. Secondly, our hope is to reach the Albemarle area with the Good news of Jesus Christ; we desire that everyone come to have a personal relationship with God, and to mature in faith. We are a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. It is our goal to simply study the Bible, worship the LORD, grow in our knowledge of Him, and to fall deeper in love with Jesus Christ. We are a non-denominational church, that offers expository teaching and preaching, contemporary worship, and casual services.

What We BelieveWe believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s (agape) love, which is greater than any difference we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship. We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship. We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped. We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshiping Him.We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, in the original autographs, is the inspired, infallible Word of God, a complete and final written revelation of God.We believe in one personal, transcendent, and holy God, the creator of all, Who is eternal, and Who manifests Himself in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ, though fully God, became a man for the suffering of death, that He is the promised Messiah, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the Cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.After Jesus ascended to Heaven, He poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today. We believe that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God.We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit who indwells, seals, and empowers every believer, baptizing them into the Body of Christ. We further believe that the Holy Spirit will come upon any believer who asks in faith, enabling him/her to preach the Gospel in power. We also believe all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. We believe that love is more important than all the gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless. We believe Jesus Christ is the head of the Body, His church, and that church government should be simplistic rather than a complex bureaucracy. We desire to be led by the Holy Spirit in all the functions and directions of the ministry of the church. We await the pre-tribulational rapture of the church, and we believe that the Second Coming of Christ with His saints to rule on the earth will be personal, pre-millennial, and visible. This motivates us to holy living, heartfelt worship, committed service, diligent study of God’s Word, regular fellowship, and participation in baptism by immersion and in Holy Communion. We seek to teach the Word of God in such a way that its message can be applied to an individual’s life, leading that person to greater maturity in Christ. We reject doctrinal viewpoints or spiritual phenomena, which are based solely on experience. We look to the Word of God for the basis of all our faith and practice. We believe in a personal devil called Satan who, along with all his evil angels, call demons, is destined to spend eternity in hell, and who now seeks to deceive the believers and defeat the work of God, but who can be resisted by believers who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, protected by God, and interceded for by Jesus our Lord.We believe that the nation of Israel has a special place in God’s plan and that all the promises of God of Israel will be fulfilled.

Worship"It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, On an instrument of ten strings, On the lute, And on the harp, With harmonious sound. For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands." Psalm 92:1-4Our style: At Calvary Chapel Elizabeth City we desire to help God’s people worship Him through a blended worship music style approach that includes modern praise and worship songs from the 1970’s to the present day along with some traditional hymns that have inspired the Body of Christ for centuries. Our purpose: To minister to the Lord with songs of praise and worship. To awaken our hearts to God’s presence within and among us. To share in the corporate expression of singing our prayers to God and to enhance the sense of unity within the Body of Christ. To soften our hearts and prepare to renew our minds by hearing the Word of God preached. To provide an atmosphere for Gods people to respond to His everlasting love and kindness and fall deeper in love with Jesus!
